How Many Families Out There Have Multiple Children With Asd And Downsyndrome? I Have 5 Children On The Spectrum With Other Diagnosis
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My children are all over the spectrum from hfa to nonverbal, I am trying to find other families with multiples like ours to talk about possible simularities, like I was on deprovera, working with caustic chemicals when I did work, and was exposed as a child to different chemicals on military instalations, my father was exposed to nuclear fallout before I was born.

We have 2 on the spectrum. Our middle son and 1st diagnosed we have always known something was not right and actually knew it was autism before he was diagnosed. He had multiple strikes against him from the start. It was an extremely difficult pregnancy with me being on antibiotics constantly. He was born at least 2 months premature (but we actually think more like 2 1/2months) by a traumatic C-section in which they actually lost me for about 10 minutes. He had a lot of feeding issues (failure to latch then progressed to lazy latch). When he was 1 month old we were in a critical car accident and although he was in proper restraints we were quite shooken up. We have always attributed all his delays due to such a rough start on life as he also has CP. Then when my oldest was diagnosed we began looking at other things. My oldest was a normal and quite easy pregnancy, his birth was C-section but due to his size not distress. He progressed normally if not ahead of schedule on everything. Our first signs of autism we dismissed as oppositional behavior. We were quite shocked when he was diagnosed. With both boys being diagnosed we started looking into genetics and have identified several family members on both sides that show the classic signs of Autism. So it's really hard to say what caused what.
