We started with an electrical razor because it's the safest. Stand next to him and both of you look in the mirror. Show how to do it on your face. Then point at his face.

Anyhow, the electrical razor didn't work so well so we switched to shaving cream and a regualar razor. That's going better because he can better see what has been done.

Remember he won't be perfect at this until a lot of practice. So be relaxed about it so he can feel competent.

Also, you might want to give him some reinforcement when finished. And praise of course.

Do you need help shaving his face like a barber or are you looking for help on how to encourage his self help skills? I'm a licensed hair dresser (staying at home for a bit for my babes) and think if he has sensory issues that help getting a close shave would be best its sort of like a facial and very relaxing. There are quite a few steps however and I don't know his skill level it may be too much for him to do for himself. My 13 year old is very hairy. But he is a neat freak. He'll let it grow out but when he's had enough or it's too itchy he uses a electric razor for hours!

Start with an electric dry razor. I showed my son a video on youtube and let him use an electric razor at first. He uses shaving cream and a "real" one now, but he used the electric for years. The sound/feeling bothered him a little at first, but less than I thought it would.
