Today has been an awesome day
However I am still wondering how to make stupidly stubborn people understand that Cecilia isn't in lack of backseat discipline, and that busting her a isn't the answer. I have family members that I have to deal with several times a week that have their own opinion and its actually causing more harm than good at times. How do I ( I have to use this phrase) make them see things from her perspective so to speak, to help them understand. LIke I said today was an… read more

I have been fighting this battle for 20 years. I always take the time to repeat the same phrase to each person again. Even if I just explained in 10 minutes ago. I will say he will not benefit from me busting his bottom. You see that may actually work to create a bigger problem when he tries to do the same to you or me. My son has a MEDICAL condition that causes his behavior. I am working with trained professionals so he can't live a good life. I am glad you continue to show such an interest in us. In reality I would like to scream at them however, that rarely diffuses the situations. I save the yelling for strangers at barber shops, doctors offices, and grocery stores. It relieves my stress and I think sticks with them longer. People on "the inside" get the per recorded message.
If they don't get it they never will. Unless they truly want to get it. My FIL gets it some of the time.. but not all the time. Very old fashioned and easy to judge someone elses parenting. My mom gets some of it but has issues from her past that put a wall up so she can be good then she'll tell my son..yeah know back in the day you had to go get your own switch... Seriously don't waste another day on them. They don't see it all and even if they do it is up to them to step back and say dang... she is doing a good job with her kids. (((HUGS))) I stopped bringing my ds to FIL or mom's years ago. He comes very rarely compared to my dd. I hope he doesn't blame me later in life.
Ok I hear what ur saying I do me my son is autistic so hitting his bottom he doesn't understand why so I never hit him I gave him a time out for 5 min and counted with him now it's hard for me to ever hit a child cause not only when they are on the spectrum but any child I worked for CPS for 17 years and the kids that I had to remove from there families the bruses that theses little kids had was just so up setting and one time I had to remove a child that had a medical problem and that was more upsetting also so I just never hit my kids iam not saying that smacking a child on the bottom is wrong but the child has to understand why and one little smack not over and over but I hope my advice works for u just try and sit the person down that u are having trouble with and explain it to them
Sometimes it is just not worth the effort. I see friends on my FB complain about a child in public and the first thing I think of is "I wonder if there is a medical reason this child does that?" When I broach the subject to them, they are always quick to say "There was nothing wrong with that child that a good butt whipping or something like that wouldn't cure" Astounding yes that these people can look at a child and know there is nothing medically wrong with them and they are just bad children misbehaving. They should all be doctors as they know so much more than the rest of us.
Oh and I gave up under my MIL and did start spanking my boy at one time... it only made things 500 times worse... And to fix that mess has taken years... and I am still paying for it and probably always will. You are doing great!!
