Members responded to a question about the Dynavox communication device by sharing that while it offers useful features, it is bulky, expensive, and prone to breaking down, leading many families to prefer iPads with communication apps like Proloquo2Go instead. Several members described how their children transitioned from the Dynavox to iPads and found them lighter, easier to use, more durable with protective cases, and significantly more affordable at around $190 for the app versus the high cost of the Dynavox. A recurring theme was the importance of getting any communication device as early as possible to reduce frustration for nonverbal children, with members encouraging the original poster to advocate with schools for funding while also considering an iPad for home use.

We tried it but after having her own ipad my daughter was thoroughly unimpressed by the big clunky machine so in the end we go the LAMP program on an ipad mini and we have seen some really interesting success. a lot of new vocab words and some slightly new ways of communicating. Because we were borrowing it through a university program we have not yet received the full training in it, but should be getting that when in the next month or so. I am encouraged and hopeful.

For the I pad ProloQuo 2go is one of the apps you can download about
$190. There are a few more but this one is a pretty good app.
We use it at home when our Dynavox breaks down... Which happens more than it should. Dynvx is a great device which my son has used for 5 yrs now. School bought it for him so they are using it at school as well. Problem is it's size and weight plus it breaks down. The iPad and other apple devices have better durability when you use otter box type of protective cover.
Once you buy the proloQuo you can downloaded on any of your other apple devices including iPhone

But if your child can't talk..... get a device to help them. I wish we would gotten the device a lot sooner.

We used it for a couple of years. Has a lot of nice features but it takes so much time to set it up. And its really expensive too. Lots of people are going to the ipad and the talking software they have on there. It's a fraction of the cost.
