My grandson was not verbal. Just used single words. He said 5 word sentence yesterday. I know he can hear and understand but have to say smth 5-6 times to get his reaction. Does it mean he develops speech now?
School environment and ABA therapy helped my son greatly!!!
Verbal is a word, but what you want is him to be conversational. Echolalia is verbal but not conversational. It isn’t functional. It’s a good start and use Verbal behavior to get him to stop being echolaic.
Our son Josh could not speak at all when he was three and we found having him work with hospital therapists in addition to the school work the best. He is six now and he talks all the time. He also used a Dynavox machine for awhile when he was nonverbal some insurance will pay for it when a child is nonverbal.
Thanks a lot! He attends special ed school and has great teachers.
