My 19years old son reacts very bad to bullying and he tells the teachers and feels like they are not doing to them and get mad at the teachers and try to hit them. Other day it happened at school ant the special ed teacher grabbed him pilled towards the wall. I want to whether they are allowed to do this.
IEP behavior plan edition NOW! 1 DISCUSS how the other students have treated your son 2 discuss how its fustrating that little to no action has been taken towards the bullies who attack your son (even if its just words) 3 ask what actions the school has taken towards these kids and WHY they havnt pursued other (or any) disiplinary routes. 4 explain that his outburts are comeing from the resentment that he feels nothing is being done to the bullies, and is not agression towards the teacher specificly.
If you explain that taking action against the bullies (even taking them to the principal or guidence counselor) will alieviate this fustration and agression. TELL them continuing their la ze fare attitude towards the bulling is only going to serve as fuel for his fire. Keep him in the loop on actions taken by the school too.
The school may say its difficult to look into every situation or complaint etc but if you impress upon them that ANY action is better than NO action and my sons outbursts are avoidable if he feels you are tring to help him, they may be more willing to do something.
No that's not allowed unless the child is trying to harm himself or others, but for non compliant behavior absolutely not!
No one should be able to pin anyone against a wall!
Thanks....your answer was really helpful. i will check about school policy.
As a general rule teachers are suppose to use non aggressive ways to handle a situation but at the same time when a student becomes a physical threat to themselves or others a teacher is obligated to step in. In our school we have 2 staff members that are MANDT trained all other members are requested to isolate the student, move away and call in both trained teachers. Our principal and myself are the trained staff. We never use physical force unless necessary and always as a last resort. Not all school systems have the same policy, the school system that trained me had a hands on policy and all teachers were trained. My husbands school also trains all staff but has a hands off approach and the students are not to be touched unless they are harming themselves. Some school see destruction of a room as harmful while others do not. So it is important to be aware of your child's school policy. And if it is something that is being used on a regular basis it is required to be put in the IEP.
