Looking For Ideas On Extracurricular Activities For My Son.
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My son is 7 and has HFA. We have tried baseball which basically ended with him in tears and me carrying him off the field, karate which he excelled in until he put on some weight and now says it makes him tired and was being picked on, jazz/hip hop dance which he seemed to like somewhat but there was not as much peer interaction as I hoped, cub scouts which I was his den leader for which was great but he has to be in bed at 8 and we didn't get home until well after that. So.... any suggestions… read more

In addition, you don't have to worry about competition, peer judgment, etc., with a kite. Just your child and a nice thing to focus on.

@A MyAutismTeam Member We do have a tumble place near us so I can check that out for sure. They have a huge foam pit and stuff. We have gone to a few different parks today we were the only ones there but the other day he got to play kickball with a group of kids and he really enjoyed that.

@epath13 I am not sure I will have to check that out.

@EvelynRepass We did Special Olympics when he was in the Special Needs Pre K and have not done anything since. I used to coach state games and help with our local games when I was younger. I know we have softball/basketball/bowling teams I'm gonna check that out. My wife and I were thinking swimming because he loves the pool.

Thanks for all the ideas guys. I know there is stuff here just have to stop and think.

Pray for windy days and get a good kite! Apart from the pleasure of having it up in the air, the tension on the kite string might be very calming. My boys love them - although Lukas isn't quite old enough to fly one himself (not quite three), his NT brother flies them all the time and Lukas shrieks with excitement when he sees it go up in the air.
