Please Help I Need To Get My Daughter To Eat Healthier. Please Help!
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi everyone, I recently took my daughter with Asperger's to a dietician. She is overweight and hates fruits and vegetables. I have tried to follow the dietcians instructions, to try to get her to eat fruit and veggies. She is almost 13 years old and has also been a picky eater and very stubborn. She is not very open to trying new foods. Any suggestions, please help!

There are ABA therapists who address picky eaters.

We implemented a weekly "carpet picnic and a movie". It's actually our trick to introducing new foods. I really don't cook much for this. On the counter I fill bowls with as many finger foods as possible. Strawberries, blueberries, dried fruit, summer sausage, carrots, etc......and then all the bowls go in the living room and we watch a family movie and eat. The girls serve themselves and you might be surprised but I caught the two year old wearing raw cauliflower last week and the three year old demolished the carrots. I think having thefoods available in a nnonaggressive situationand giving the girls the power of their own plates was the key.

Thank you for all the advice, it has been helpful. I will just keep trying. Graciella I am reading more of the labels and looking at the sodium and fat content. My daughter also has a heart condition which limits her activity level, so it is going to be harder for her to lose some of the weight. Thanks again.

Try reduced fat products and low sodium. My son was over weight and we looked at what he was eating and I was surprised by how much salt was in the foods. So I started looking at labels and buying low sodium products that he ate. He is picky too. I also have him eat like this breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner, snack by 6:30pm then no more food for the day. If I could not get the product in low sodium I allowed him one high sodium product a day. He has done this for six months now and has lost a total of 10 lbs of fat he looks better and functions on a daily basis better.
