Public Schools For Aspies?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question šŸ’

Is there a public school system in this country that is addressing the needs of kids with Aspergers? I am beyond frustrated and tired of dealing with our school system. So discouraged & desperate. Thank you.

I have been beyond blessed with the care my son has been given in our school district. We live the the Lakewood district in Michigan. He is high functioning Aspbergers. He has a very comprehensive IEP and the teachers that have never dealt with ASD in their classrooms went above and beyond to educate themselves on how to teach him. He just started middle school and yesterday he took second place in his first Cross Country meet!! It was a day that I have prayed so many times would happen!! I know he faces many, many challenges that most of us can't even pretend to understand but so far our school district has done everything possible to make his experiences very positive!! Thank you Jesus and thank you Lakewood and Ionia ISD!!

I take my daughter to a charter school. It is run privately, but funded publicly. It is awesome. Yay! See www.spectrumcharter.org

None that I know of. However I am starting an autism gift and thrift store to find a school and I camp I have a very reputable CPA donating the filing the 501(c)(3) and attorney giving the articles that will be longer than two pages so it goes through faster. with the store will raise funds to go into the Blake Bennett foundation for autism to build our children a school and I camp. A church has already been donated for the camp of already and items and money and I haven't even opened. I am looking for people in the Baton Rouge area who would like to be a part of this to make it happen. There is a camp I found in Mississippi that children with autism/Aspergers can go for a week free. Also I will also have information on a dual enrollment where they get a diploma and or GED and do college courses at same Time. Depends on how old they are. I think the age here is 16. This way
Being with adults they won't be bullied by staff or children.
