What States Have ABA Classrooms In Public Schools?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My wife and I have heard about some states that have ABA classrooms in public school. This seems very interesting to me. I like the idea of getting immediate implementation of ABA strategies if a "meltdown" starts to occur. Does your state have these classrooms? Are these classrooms teaching grade level content? What are you opinions of this idea as compared to private ABA clinics?

This is a tricky situation because in most states ABA is incorporated into classrooms by teaching methods but it is often not as intense as a strictly ABA program. Schools also incorporate speech OT and PT as well.

My state is good with incorporating all and it is good for my son but was not enough for my daughter. I would consider a state because of the total of services that are available. It all depends on what your child needs and what their level of need is

MD has them but there is a waiting list and your child has to fail out of regular ed to get into them. Both of my sons are in these classes. I hired a lawyer to get them in.

Hawaii or more specifically Oahu does. It's been a life saver for us. I know Arizona does also not sure about any others though.

We live in MA and have had a lot of luck getting what we need. My son is HFA and all of his therapies are done at school. He starts his day in the NT classroom, but then goes to the ESE room where he is with about four to five other children where he gets a lot of one on one time. He has an OT that helps him at Gym as well. If my son is in The NT room and is having a hard time he can go to the ESE room to be more comfortable. If he comes into school having a bad day he can stay there all day if it helps.

My daughter is LFA and she was in the public school for a year and a half and they did what they could for her. She had a one on one all day and was in her own classroom where she was the only student most of the day. There were a few other students who came in and out of the classroom. She got ABA OT and Speech all in the classroom. We were also getting home based ABA 3 hrs a day in addition to school that the school paid for. They really did the best they could but we finally had to have her go to a residential school where she get intense therapy, but the district pays for that as well.
