Hi..My son is 4 years old and nonverbal. He was diagnosed as autistic by a psychologist but she did not give me a proper treatment plan as to what therapies or how much of it to be given.. He attends early intervention classes 3 times a week and gets ST 1 hour a week... can u believe that? I want to get him reevaluated... so where should i take him? developmental pediatrician or neurologist or psychologist or psychiatrist... which would be the best and with less waiting period....??? thanks
Thanks a lot guys...
Applied Behavioral Analysis if you can get coverage for that through your health insurance or Regional Center. Occupational therapy and possibly physical therapy (OT is for fine motor & self-help skills, PT is for gross motor skills) if there are delays. I would also recommend finding a good physician with experience treating ASD from a biomedical standpoint (many, but not all, are affiliated with Defeat Austim Now!)
Probably I would think a good start is a clinic or a center for Autism. We started my nephew at Children's Specialized Hospital in Toms River Nj. Then you have a team working with your child and all of the therapies are there. The team talks to each other, I just think it's the best way to go. I understand there are long waiting lists, but it's easier to get in when they are younger and you can put him on a number of different waiting lists and cancel the others when you do get an appointment. The 100 day tool kit mentioned by #MyZett is also a great place to start. Good Luck!
thanks a lot MyZett...
