I am considering to change my daughter pediatrician to Maps/Dan pediatrician Do you have one of these physicians for your child? what is your experience of DAN/MAPS Pediatricians in respect of non MAPS from your point of view as a parent? Any recommendation for MAPS/DAN ped in Baltimore area? Thanks.
Ok, I looked around a bit. It looks like their treatments are nutrient therapies which doesn't sound like something that would be covered by insurance. I also couldn't find any place on the website that states what insurance they accept which would generally indicate that they don't take any.
Unless you're totally prepared to go out if pocket for this, I would call and clear up what the deal is.
I don't know that you would want to (or even could) use a maps/dan doctor as a primary care doc. Usually you would continue to see your regular physician for annual physicals and illness. A dan doc would just consult on your child's autism issues.
Also, maps/dan docs often don't take insurance so it probably would be a very expensive option even if you did find one that would be your primary care.
We use our primary care pedi who specializes in disabled children along with a Neurologist and a Psychiatrist who all work together as a team and communicate with each other. We have never used a DAN/MAPS Dr for some of the reasons mentioned here and also because the treatment our children get is top notch and we rarely have issues, they all let us email communicate through one portal 24hrs a day. If you have good doctors there is no need to change them, but that is why we moved to this area of the country
Some of them are covered and some are not. It can be quite expensive and time consuming for the treatments. Some people have had great success.
Our biomed dr. is in-network for most PPO insurance plans (unfortunately my DH recently changed jobs and the only option there is an HMO so from now on we will have to pay out-of-pocket). Some of the lab tests and treatments were covered by our old PPO insurance but not all. He is not affiliated with DAN/MAPS because he disagrees with some of the treatments in the protocol (most notably chelation and hyperbaric oxygen) but he does use a lot of the same biomed treatments. The biggest gains we have personally seen have come from biomed so for us, it's totally worth it to pay out-of-pocket. We'll just need to see him less frequently (every 6 months rather than every 2-3).
