Daycare Providers And Pull-ups
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I am having a minor issue with my daycare provider and my son. My son is not fully potty trained. I suspect he is somewhere on the spectrum, though he is not officially diagnosed. He is trained with poop, but not fully with pee. He has pee accidents constantly at home and at daycare. Daycare refuses to put a pull-up on my son, saying that he is trained. He is not in my opinion, as he has frequent accidents ( three times a week clothes come home soiled) the daycare specifically says potty… read more

I was not dumb ahhh this phone in conclusion I believe he is ahead in comparison to where my son started because he really is holding it for much longer periods of time.At last you are the person who knows your son better but I do believe that if the daycare provides him with positive reenforcement and consistency he may surprise you.My son is 9 years old , severly autistic,non-verbal and has sensory desintegration disorder. Sorry for the long post.

I don't know if my experience may help. My son learned to go potty for pee just this year. He does not get he also should poop in the toilet, he seems uncomfy going in a sitting position.I don't mean to disregard your opinion and I apologize ahead of time if this may offend you but I do believe your son is within months to be fully potty trained.I will share my experience in hopes that it will help you even if it is just a little. My son had a really hard time learning going potty because he did not mind at all to be wet ( maybe because he loves water)he went trough the years with potty records at school and me at home and he did not advance I felt hopeless I thought he is never going to get it.This school year( different schedule here) in a new school his teacher told me the first day" mother don't bring him to school on pull-ups anymore do sent lots of extra pants and some juice boxes everyday" he wet at least 5 pants in 3 hours( that's the time he goes to school regularly to keep a small ratio is only him and one classmate the teacher and one aid) he will wet at home more pants as well. The teacher will take him potty every 30 minutes then every 40 minutes( the classroom has its own restroom ) I tried to keep the same routine at home or at least the consistency. To make the story short he learned in a few months to the point that now he goes by himself at home and while out I will taking him to the public restroom at least once since is not so visible and now sometimes in public places he starting to move funny and tries to catch my attention by hugging to me and looking at my face ( still hard to say but I will run to the restroom anywhere we are and he goes) I still put a pull-up on him for bedtime and I recently remove that as well and working on it overall most of the time he is dry in the morning)

Look, the bottom line is this is your son and what you say goes! Sometimes boys take longer and he is one of those boys, so tell those people to put a dang pull-up on him!
