Our aba has been working with my son for maybe 2 months now. I just got notice that the supervising staff will be replaced by new people. This is really bugging me because the actual tutors who work with my son are inexperienced. The saving grace was that the supervisors were experienced, but now that they are leaving I am questioning my decision to go with this company. Am I overreacting? Is this common?
We saw a fair amount of turnover at our provider. I think doing ABA, especially for someone who isn't ultimately trying to work toward being a BCBA, is a job with a high burn out rate. We all know how challenging it can be to be with autistic children day in and day out. If they weren't my kids and I wasn't getting a huge paycheck, I'm not sure how long I would make it in that field either.
Thank you for sharing your experience. I feel like it's easy to be complacent, because my insurance is paying for it. But I know that if this money was coming out of my pocket I would be demanding a lot more for what I can only imagine what this company charges. I feel like they are using my son for training sessions. I sent them an email to find out what the new personnel's qualifications are.
Thank you all for your responses. I came to terms with the people who work directly with my son possibly having a high turn over rate, but I assumed that the supervising staff would remain somewhat constant. I may be naive, but in reality each new member of my son's ABA has to become familiar with him. Just because they happen to be part of the same company doesn't mean they start where they other person left off. How much of my son's therapy will be spent on training new staff?
