When did you start noticing body odor with your son? When did you start having him use deodorant?

Forget the WHEN---let's talk about WHAT! My autistic son is 28 and I finally solved the stench problem about 5 years ago. He had been nearly impossible to be in the same room with...and that's shortly after I had scrubbed his armpits in the shower! Most of our guys on the spectrum have chemical sensitivities---my son's reactivity to chemicals gets worse every year so I must be extremely careful. After trying everything imaginable, I discovered APPLE CIDER VINEGAR (must be raw, organic and "of the MOTHER") I apply it to his armpits---about 10 scrubs each using a good quality reusable cosmetic sponge. I keep it in the refrigerator in a little jar and change the ACV once a week. It works fantastic! Use it on feet too if you must. There is no chemical aftermath whatsoever. Life any vinegar you use for cleaning etc, the smell goes away quickly. His smell used to be a huge impediment to any kind of socialization and was a huge problem at work. Now it's only a problem if we forget to use it. Once a day right after his shower is enough for the day, but sure wouldn't hurt a bit if you wanted to use it more often because this is food grade stuff. In fact, I use the same brand of ACV to make salad dressings.

My is now 30 years old and this had been a problem forever anyway it seems that way. Took him to the dermatologist was told it could be his medications and prescribed medication. Nothing worked, I had to go to a dermatologist for different reasons not same dermatologist as my son went to and I asked him about my son and what we had done with the other dermatologist. Here is his answer, I get a lot of people on the spectrum with the same problem medications do not work. There is a simple solution, after he showers he uses hydrogen peroxide that now comes in a spray bottle now more than a couple of dollars, a couple sprays under at each underarm then after a minute or so wipe it off and then put regular do you order it 90% of the time it works. Also the dermatologist said when he takes a bath not a shower fill the top with 1 tablespoon of chlorine bleach. My son won't do that so the hydrogen peroxide spray is what my son uses

My son was like 1-2. I thought at first it was stinky feet lol then I figured out it was armpits. I asked a dermatologist because he was so young. We started using Metro gel for several years then I started using men's right guard.

My son is 21. Body odor is one of his most biggest issues. He does take showers and now bath but also is rigid and only changes cloths when he wishes. Still, he tries when reminded. UGH.

WE started my son at 10yo, when I noticed the armpit odor. WE use a NON aluminum deodorant (which means, no antiperspirant). WE also give him epsom salt baths which helps with the foot odor and general detoxing of his system. And we use a body wash from Arbonne - which is skin care products that are all natural, no chemicals and generally promote skin health. I encourage other parents with kids with autism to think through what your kids eat, what they put on their skin, and how you help them detox their systems. It's all connected and it all helps with general brain function. email or message me with questions.
