When MB12 And Chealation Can Be Helpful For Autistic Kids?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hello
My 5 years old daughter is diagnosed recently with mild autism. She already has ADHD and language disorder. She takes speech therapy. She is advanced academically and like playing with other people board games and hide and seek. She laughs a lot with her 2.5 years old brother and plays with him for long time but rarely talks to him. She talks well with adults but not with her peers. She has some sensory issue such as fear from loud dryers but it is not a big issue as she can get… read more

MB12 is usually the first and most effective intervention that most DAN doctors try after diet and supplementation. It was the best intervention for us - instant and immediate difference after the shot. The effect would fade within couple of days. However only a third of the kids are immediate and clear responders. There are three published studies on MB12 in ASD context and has been used as a treatment by DAN docs across the world for over a decade. It is a water soluble B-vitamin which is very safe as any excess that the body doesn't use is urinated out quickly. In ASD, it isn't enough B12 issue (my son's B12 level was normal) but rather an issue to methylate B12 (make methyl form of B12) which requires glutathione as a precursor (which multiple studies have shown to be deficient in ASD). One also needs to supplement folate (folinic acid or methyl folate) if supplementing MB12. One can supplement MB12 orally which we did for six months before switching to mB12 shots but the efficacy is not the same as less than 5% is absorbed orally and one would need to dose is every 2 hrs orally (rather than every 2-3 days using mb12 shots which we have done for over a year). One can run a methylation panel to determine whether glutathione is low and look at various methylation markers. The latest published study tied best responders to the change in glutathione levels. This can be easily tested. We started MB12 when our son was less than 3 year old (verbal) and have using MB12 for over a year with no side effects and it has improved speech the most but also overall executive functioning.

My child has language but is still in need of help that MB12 can provide. I have just started my daughter on the injections, on her 4th shot and have seen some benefits. I'll post a link to Dr. Neubrander's website where you can find out all benefits of MB12 injections. There are parent feedback videos and testimonials as well. It can still help a child who has language and with behavior, socially, etc. Here you go: http://www.drneubrander.com

Thank you for your reply. We do these things as well. However, our main frustration is that, my daughter she does not have the patience to stay and talk to someone. This is very clear when we visit some friends as she become all over the place and find it very difficult to handle. She is diagnosed with ADHD as well but we try to delay the medication as much as we can. We believe her social skills is delayed because of her activity and focus. My feeling is that even she is pn GFCFSF, there is something trigger her activity in food. I just thought about sharing that with you all.
Thanks

Thank you for your reply. Have you noticed any improvement other than the speech. I am asking because my daughter who is now 5 years old talks well. The main issue is her hyperactivity, social skills and age appropriate behavior and getting upset easily.
Thanks

My DD was 3 3/4 when she started the MB12 shots. She was talking mostly in short phrases but was still <1st percentile for expressive speech for her age. After being on MB12 for 11 mos she was retested and had jumped to the 5th percentile. So still behind but definite progress made in closing the gap that the speech therapist was very encouraged about.
