BTW, there are several places around here for speech and occupational therapy, but ABA therapy is hard to find in this area. I plan on getting my little one into gymnastics soon with a personal trainer that works with special needs children. We have done Kindermusic and the teacher worked well with us- I just stayed in the room with her class to keep her from wondering around but she loved it. Miller Swim school does swim classes for children with special needs and this is a fun activity that builds their strength and teaches them to swim, plus many children enjoy playing in water!
My daughter's school has been really been helpful in BA. We also do private speech and occupational therapy twice a week for both. Progress is slow and every now and then I feel like I failed her by not having the money to pay for everything out there. But at the same time I know that kids with autism are all over the spectrum and do not always respond to different treatments the same way. What helps one child may do nothing at all for the next.
I know this sounds bad, but now that my daughter is 5 I sometimes feel like this is it........but I know its not and that if we keep working on 1 skill vigorously at a time she will eventually get it - it just takes more time. UGH and its exhausting!
Sorry to go on and on- if you find any resources in this area that are helpful please let me know.
Hey there. My daughter is also 5 and is moderate to severely effected with autism. These are the only two DAN doctors (defeat autism now)I know about in our area. I cannot afford them right now, but I think they do bio type treatments.
