I don't mean this sarcastically, so please take it in the kind spirit in which it is intended. Just like any other kiddo, no manual is included and you just have to do what works best with your child at any age.

As stated in other comments, ABA techniques establish the framework for dealing with ASD issues as your child matures. But, as with everything in life, new experiences will create new challenges--- sometimes you just have to wing it. Everything works it way out no matter what you do. Just try to take it as it comes(says the Type A compulsive planner) and know that you are not alone :0)

Also ABA doesn't have to be done by therapist. The techniques can be used by parents to teach and we use some of those simple techniques (eg rewards) to get our older NT son to do his homework as well. But in our ASD son, we want to retain the ABA team that knows him really well to help him now start reading and writing (he is turning 4). I could teach the same as well or hire a private tutor, and use ABA techniques to do that but i prefer to keep the ABA team. Even with our older NT son we enrolled him into outside programs to help read / write / math (Kumon) and he is doing great. We hope to start that with our younger ASD son as well but will still keep the ABA team in place for another couple of years. In our case, time (not $) is the most limited resource and need to invest it as wisely as possible.
