Anybody out there got a teenager? I didn`t find out my daughter had autism, until she was 12. Which explained a lot, when we found out. However; over the years I have felt kinda lost. It has been hard find parents with older kids that have autism.

we have had nothing but issues b/c this is a so called invisible d/o.Once the school gave my daughter detention (actually many times)b/c she just could not figure out how to do her assignments in the resource room (where kids go for extra help etc)they spent months asking her to do her work ,she spent months telling them she could not do the work.finally they just labeled her argumentative and gave her detention.i was very offended that the strategy the school used most of the time was punishment ......i am not a believer that punishment is going to help a person with a disability.hang in there!!!

Thanks Pam......I`m hangin tough when I need to be. The first thing I did when my daughter was diagnosed was, start educating myself. In doing so, I found myself being her best advocate. Sounds like you are doing the same:)

My daughter is 16. She was diagnosed with Asperger's in 2005. Hang in there...it can be rough, but I found that the more I educated myself, the better I was able to help her.

I get a lot that too from people. My sister whom I am on skype with daily, was one of them. I just kept educating her on autism/aspergers. She now understands more and sees whats its all about. Also why my daughter does what she does. I do get the "oh but she looks normal too me" or "she don`t look she has autism". So I hear your frustration.
