Not Enough Speech Therapy
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

At the moment my son is without insurance (job change) but I just found out my employer sponsored insurance only provides 5 therapy sessions a year. Thats not enough to get my son tbrough half of the week! At the moment we get assistance through the regional center for all his services because of insurance. He is only approved for 5 sessions of speech per month. Per his therapist, she recommends 3-4x a week! Does anyone know how I can get more speech therapy? I know its probably not possible… read more

I think you should appeal to the Regional Center that he needs more based on the prescription from the therapist, Regional center is suppose to bear the cost if you have exhausted your insurance limit.

All of these stories sound so heart breaking. What is discouraging is that I am not seeing any good solutions.

i did see where those who "can qualify for the low limit if you earn too much"

Where can I try to apply for my son?

Do you have SSI because if you do then you should be able to get State Medicaid. If you think you make to much money to apply for SSI there is always a low limit anyone can qualify for no matter what you make. I think it is somewhere around $300 a month. Your goal is not only the SSI it is the Medicaid you can then apply for after getting SSI. Once your child is labeled disabled by SSI you will be approved for Medicaid. They will pay for services and then your current insurance will become secondary.
