Pregnancy!!
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

For parents that have had one child diagnosed on the spectrum, when you found out you were pregnant again, did genetic testing really prove or disprove that your second baby would have any type of problems? I'm 3 months and haven't had the test done yet, I'm deathly scared to have a second child, but have been blessed with this new baby.. Help!! Lol

Congratulations. I would recommend taking 5000IU vitamin D (minimizes a lot of risks in pregnancy), avoid Tylenol and instead of folic acid, take folinic acid or methyl folate. All of these are ASD risk factors in pregnancy that can be avoided. As for genetics, I wouldn't worry about it - the known genetic causes of autisms are rare and you cannot do anything about these. So look for other risk factors that you can do something about. Good luck.

We had genetic testing. It all came back normal. The only "odd" thing that ever showed up during my pregnancy with Ty was that his nuchal fold was missing in the ultrasound, and that really doesn't mean much, either. On the bright side, the odds are that everything will be okay-and if not, you've got prior experience, so you can spot problems earlier.

Think positive. My middle has ASD and his older sister and younger brother are just fine.

I think the current genetic testing available is for Fragile X for the spectrum....maybe I'm mistaken..

The genetic tests are not going to tell you anything, we spent a lot of money on them and it told us nothing. We ended out having two ASD children and even after testing them both there are no answers.

You just have to try to not think about and also think about the fact that it is not as common to have two than one.
