Hello,

I am hoping someone has an elementary school recommendation. My son is 8. He has aspergers and meltdowns about once or twice per day at school. He also has the Mckay Scholarship.

I have not been able to find a school who understands his needs but is not prohibitively expensive. Many say they take kids on the spectrum but do not really know what it means or how to respond to situations that arise.

The problem is that there are very little in the way of services in the entire state of Florida, and the best place is Eden, but they are in Fort Myers and Naples which is far away from you. Even with the McKay that will not pay for the whole year and you will have to pay thousands to make up the difference. Outside of that the public schools are horrible and the staff is not trained very well in ASD. They use regular special ed teachers that take a few classes here or there. I had may a specialist tell me that FL is 20 years behind the northern states and they were right.
