The state of Florida requires all fully-insured plans to cover ABA. Companies that self-fund their employee insurance plans are not required to follow state regulations, only federal.

They do consider income, so if you made a lot of money you would have to pay for some of it but I am not sure of the exact percentage they never told us.

The biggest reason they are paying is because we had multiple recommendations from doctors. We had the PCP the Neurologist and the Psychiatrist all say the same thing, the school did do their evaluation as well but to be honest they could never contradict the specialists. The other thing we proved was that the school could not provide a safe setting for my daughter because she runs and needed a one on one at all times. The public school just could not handle her but you have to start there. They did try because they had a private van pick her up, she was in a class with only two other children and she had a fridge and microwave in the classroom for her foods. Then she had a home ABA for three hrs a day after school. They paid for it all but it was not enough.

Sorry to sound so negative about FL but it was he'll down there and the teachers just did not have the skills they do up here, also the medical care is 20 yrs behind and the doctors down there will readily admit it, even at children's. So unless you are willing to pay for everything the grant doesn't and that did not include all the extras a child like my daughter needs you cannot make it.

My son is in public school but has PT outside school, and Medicaid pays for that but the school would if they didn't. They do a great job with him so we have no complaints.

That is great that MA picks up 100% of therapy and ASD education in a private school! Do they consider income or is it solely based on DX?

I say this because my daughter is severe ASD and nonverbal and my son is HFA. My daughter required more than the public schools could handle , they could barely handle my son. We had to have my daughter go to Eden which was great but she also needs year round services. The 75% still left 4K a year and the summer program for my son even with the grant 2K. There is no other service in FL at all provided by the state, and private insurance would not pay either.

I am now in MA and my sons therapies are all paid for and my daughter goes to an ASD school that the state pays 360K a year for. FL has nothing like this kind of care and even if they did you would not get it funded, try paying for the 25% of 360k on your own and know the teachers do not have a quarter of the training.
