Has Anyone Held Their Shild Back One More Year In Pre-school?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Has anyone ever kept their child back in pre-school for one more year? I am debating it as academically he is ready but socially not and last year he missed a whole year of pre school because of the whole divorce scenarion:(???
He has his IEP meeting the 1st of May and they may say he is ready for kindergarden but what are my rights as a parent to keep him another year? He turns 5 in June....

I kept my son in pre-school an additional year and it has really helped him through the years. He was fortunate enough to be placed in an Developmentally Delayed Pre-school at our local elementary school which helped him get ready for kindergarten. The other thing is a lot of kindergartens are becoming all day affairs which is sometimes too much for young aspies. He is now going into 11th grade and is doing really well socially and academically.

I did keep my son back anextra year. The sschool didn't want me to but we had a psychological assessment done that clearly outlined his delay and we had him in an alternative program for kids with special needs. If it hadn't been for that program, I'm sure I would have had more if a fight on my hands.

It may be a good idea to keep your child back . I have done so with my child, because he needed it. He has blossomed right in front of my very eyes, and I couldn't have thanked his teacher enough. I hope this helps
