okay, so my son is going to ABA therapy; but only on mon, wed and fridays for two hours. i feel that it is not enough hours of therapy for him. but who knows if it really does get him overwhelmed. i feel that i need to place him in other types of therapy. i want speech therapy, and they have told me about behavior therapy but it has been a month or two and have not called us about it. is there programs or therapys we have to seek on our own as parents or do they just give us what ever is that… read more
Educating Children with Autism by the National Research Council says services should be a minimum of 25 hours per week, 12 months a year. Because schools can't offer all that time, it's nice to supplement school (pre-school?) hours with ABA, if you can. The best advice I got was to keep my son engaged at home. Have him help out around the house (have him help with laundry, bring me things, etc), show him what errands we were running with a visual list, and let him make simple choices. Hi does youre son speaks? if he doesn't that when the behavior comes in my son had alot of behavior because he couldn't express his need's so he use to throw hiself on his back on the floor or hit his head on the wall and scream alot I recommend speech and ot beside aba and take him to the pool that will relax him alot I take my son to ymca they have this lazy river he love it they have the life jacket for the kids do you have him any programs for special needs kids like baseball or soccer you have too have him do fun stuff too they get overwhelmed with too much theraphy.
