Thinking my ASD son may also have ADD. Who do I see for diagnosis? School, pediatrician, psychologist, other doctor?
We see the pediatrician for both ASD and ADHD. Although the pediatrician specializes in both.
If you have to go the med route Adderall works well and has little by the way of side effects. This is what the athletes use for concentration and it does wonders. If you can get away without meds that is great but if you have to it is one of the safest ones our there
Thanks for your help! I found out I will have to start with my pediatrician because of insurance and possibly get a referral. My pediatrician doesn't specialize in ASD but haven't talked to her before about ADHD.
I would see a psychiatrist or if you already have one a neurologist they can help you as well, and if medication is needed either of them can do that for yoy
I actually have an appointment tomorrow to speak with a pediatric psychiatrist about my DD's hyperactivity. I've exhausted the list of our biomed dr.'s suggestions for treating ADHD without medication, so he said the next step would be trying a non-stimulant like Intuniv. The general pediatrician said with the autism diagnosis that she feels that we should have a pediatric psychiatrist oversee ADHD treatment.
