thank you I am going to try the cushioned seat and books. I tried underpants however, he simply poops wherever he is. I am constantly cleaning.

My son is 9 and still not potty trained. He is going through a fairly rigorous program that includes at school where he is being taken to the bathroom to sit on the toilet at least once every half hour. We are being told that eventually it works, but we are still not there yet!

My ASD daughter was potty trained by the time she was 3. Distraction with books and her Ipad helped to keep her on long enough to make sure she pooped, etc. As for wiping and washing, I just made it routine as far as tushy, heiny, toilet, tushy, heiny toilet, wash hands, both sides, between fingers, dry up. After she did all that, she knew she was done. Maybe flash cards or a picture with the sequence of event would help.

My son was pee potty-trained at three, not poop potty-trained until five. We created a very specific social story for him about peeing and pooping on the potty that we read for months before we went cold turkey and removed all diapers, even at night. We were told that sometimes pooping is harder than peeing because they can't really watch someone pooping and they can't see what is happening so it's a little more scary. We went into a lot of detail in the story. :) Finally, we took away the diapers altogether. He was wearing underwear during the day and not pooping until he got a pull-up at night. This meant I changed the sheets every day, but it worked. We also let him read books or play the iPad on the potty and gave him treats whenever he was successful. He still wets the bed sometimes, but he is completely potty trained. There were a couple of difficult times where I held him on the potty because I knew he had to go. He would scream, then go and be fine. It was horrible but it was only a couple of times and he got it. Good luck!
