Has Anyone Had Success With Risperdal?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My son's pediatrician wants to start him on the lowest dose of risperdal. I would like to know how it has worked for others.

My son has been on Risperdal about 10 months. Initial dosage was .5 mg. I noticed a huge difference within just a few days. Physician increased to .5 mg twice a day and my son became out of control. He was obstinate and violent. Communicated with physician and to my surprise the doctor chose to increase to .5 mg 3x a day. Perfect dosage. He has had weight gain and increased appetite but he is not "fat". The benefits outweigh the possible side effects for me as a single parent. We have since added Prozac as well. So, I would also say while no drug is going to be a miracle cure, finding the right combination for your child is key. My advise would be to keep open communication with the physician.
