GFCFSF Diet Does It Work For All
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi my son has been on the GFCFSF diet for 13 months now, we're very rigorous with it and he's compliant still no success.
My kid didn't have gut issues. ( don't think he does) he has a good appetite, eats a variety of food pretty regular. The special diet made him constipated and sometimes he'll have diarrhea. Which wasn't the case before the diet. It there anyone out there with no success on GFCF?

We tried the diet with my son 15 years ago. Back then there was b nothing in thd grocery store that I could get fir him that he would eat. I had to make everything from scratch. He hated the food. He basically stopped eating. People say that a child won't starve himself but they are wrong. He got so skinny and we didn't see any difference in behavior so I let him eat tge food he likes.

I am going to hear from the proponents of the diet but if testing says there are no issues it does not work well. You are going to hear it takes months to get everything out of the child's system and you should wait longer but it just does not work for everyone and that is the truth.

The only things that work are proven therapies and a lot of work on your and the therapists parts. This along with meds generally gains results.

I can tell you I have a nonverbal eight year old who is self injurious and no diet or supplement worked. My daughter has been in residential for a year and a half and she now takes a quarter of the meds she did, does not hurt herself or others like she did before, only happens on occasion. She uses sign language and a tablet to communicate and does track and field in Special Olympics. She has therapies all day everyday and the only time off is on the weekends after school on Saturday and Sunday.

The change in her is amazing and she is in one of the best schools in the country and that is why we moved here. The stories are all the same from other parents of children at the school whether it is residential or the day program. Proven techniques work and they are the only thing that work on a consistent basis.

I was thinking that this diet could help with constipation issues and then maybe I coukd finally get my 17 year old Son to go to the restroom on time and on his own. I think that his irregular bowel movements may be hindering him. Anyone see and results with training?
