I couldn't find this ranking on the Internet so I made my own. I used info from the Autism Speaks website and supplemented data gaps by reading some more details on state FAQs on insurance mandates. I multiplied number of years someone was eligible times maximum compensation yearly. I then looked whether the mandates cover state employees, individual plans and fully insured large/small group plans. Self-funded plans aren't usually included so you can move to one of the better states and… read more
I think this is great information and I can tell you as someone who has lived it this is pretty true.
I lived in FL and I always say how bad it is, other than good weather it is horrible. I also moved to MA and always say how good it is so I went from one of the worst to the best.
I will say that you still have to do your research and you still have to advocate for your children even in a good state.
What some do not know about MA is that it is mandated that you have insurance so if you cannot afford it the state gives it to you. Even if you can afford it but barely they will supplement it or reimburse you for some of the cost.
The other thing about MA is that the medical care is top notch so you can find good doctors and specialists that have experience with ASD and you will not have to drive 3 hrs to get it.MA also has one of if not the best ASD schools in the nation NECC for specialized schooling and residential services if you need it.
I always preach that if you are in a bad state like FL you need to leave. I know it is not easy I have had to do that but to get the care you need you have to sacrifice and that is what I did, and I do not regret it one bit.
@A MyAutismTeam Member, hope you have a better experience than our family has had in Georgia. Better yet bring a lot of money with you. I haven't read many good stories from the Peachtree State and there's probably a good reason for it.
Just moved from IL to Tennessee eeeek. I have been looking into a lot of additional physical and occupational programs the response is suuuuuuper slow but we are getting there.
I live in KY! Yikes!
Yikes! We live in IL and if we move for my husband's job it will be to GA.
