as a southerner born and bred I resent that stereotypical 'joke' - Georgia school system is decent. Florida teachers even cross the border to work in that district - pay much higher. I live in Florida and even getting information is next to impossible. Florida has strict HIPPA laws (privacy) and you can't even find out if there are other Aspie kids enrolled in pursuit of finding a forever friend or some peer dialogue. my brother and his 8 year old autistic daughter live in Alaska and that state is amazing. she gets so much help and even subsidies. They live in Ankorage and the weather is a lot easier to take than one southerner would imagine. we have all of our teeth too! and I would never date my cousins (ha). Too bad we can't elect a President with autistic children so we could get a supply of empathy?
You're coming from New York to Georgia? In this state your kid only gets free banjo lessons and how to sit on a rocking chair on the front porch.
That's a joke but I have yet to be impressed by anything in Georgia when it comes to dealing with autism. Insurance pays nothing for ABA or anything else, Medicaid waiver paperwork is kicked back at you, special ed class was in a windowless room.
