Anyideas About Potty Training?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My son is 3.5 yrs old and is still not trained. I've heard it takes longer for them which is why I havent pushed the issue but I want to atleast introduce the idea to him and work on it with him. Oh and i'll be "introducing" he potty to his brother as well who is 18 months old (not on the spectrun....yet). Any advice would be greatly aprreciated, thanks!

I am right with you on the potty training issue. My son is 3, and I tried potty training in less than a day, as was recommended by the psychologist who diagnosed him. However, I quickly realized that he was not ready and it wasn't going to happen yet. For now we take him to the potty several times per day, but he doesn't initiate going to the potty on his own and doesnt seem to know when he has to go.

Yes, potty training takes a bit longer. Give him until he's 5 or 6, but continue to be consistent with taking him to the bathroom and put underwear on him during the day when you are at home. The tricky part of potty training is if they have bowel movement issues and are "withholding".

it took forever for us but around 4 yo finally it happened. we had to take him to restroom every hour/half hour. u have to reward them when they go. m&m, chocolate chips, or gummies whatever they like. ABA helped a lot

@A MyAutismTeam Member my son is 3 yo and when he poops he stands up with his legs locked and not wanting to sit down, he know how to pull his pull up, up and down, flash the toilet. So what do I do about the fact that he doesn't want to sit while he's pooping?
