Clonidine Question
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hello... We are on day two of clonidine ... He takes half a tablet twice a day... Morning and evening... Noticed that he is very tired after morning dose and actually fell asleep in the car while running errands today ( unheard of for him) has anyone else experienced this? Does the sleepiness pass as his body adjusts to the meds? Please share.

Thanks

my dr said you can definitely cut in half and if possible 1/4. ive been doing it for years.

I tried vyvanse and I believe the guanfacine (Intuniv)

it made her loose her avility to potty in potty, she would just pee anywhere, anyone have this issue?

she was on risperidone for a long time, but it made her not be able to be in social situations, she covers her ears and cries.

we have tried most adhd meds and all had side effects of some sort. tired Quillavant liquid, when she cam off at end of day she was violently aggressive.

recently tried Draytana again, but he have he 20mg and said I could cut it inhalf for ten mg, but paperwork says to not cut?

anyone with that experience?

she also had potty issues.

she is 8 and was fully potty trained, not a diaper in the house, now she is having many accidents again, I can only send so many sets of clothes, teacher is not able to spend time teaching for cleaning and changing her clothes. I had to put her in diaper, which is really hard for me to do, I consider it a regression.

she is adhd and cognitively delayed. 8 yrs old but on almost 3 yr ld level :(

any help would be appreciated, I was thinking about going back to 4 yrs back, regular Ritalin, but it makes her heart beat so fast..... :(

ok so I was able to read all clonidine responses (I didn't get a chance to read them earlier) so Clonidine does make kiddos sleepy wow. I can honestly say it does calm my boys down,my headstand twin doesn't fall asleep as quickly as his brother...it takes abt 2 hours to get him sleepy...but my other twin falls asleep within 1/2 an hour of taking it...and his prek teacher says he gets very cranky an irritable before falling asleep. I'll take to their neurologist abt it. thnx

For kids, Clonidine will make them sleepy. For my kids, they take Tenex(guanfacine) in the AM and Clonidine at night.

Bailey took Clonidine 0.1mg twice a day for a while, and it made her sleepy in school in the morning. She takes Intuniv ER now, just one pill at night, and the sleepiness is gone, but it also takes her longer to fall asleep at night. The pedi said there is no lower dose of Clonidine and did not suggest that it can be cut in half. She is 6 yrs. old and taking the meds for ADHD and also Risperidone for aggression related to Autism.

It's hard to cut it in a quarter. But you can try that.
