Has Anyone Researched And Discovered The Best State To Live In If You Have A Child With ASD?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Does anyone know what state has the most to offer for children with autism? As far as insurance programs that will cover ABA, treatment centers, programs, etc....? I'm desperate for my sons well being and willing to relocate or whatever is necessary to give him the best opportunities to live an independent adult life. I feel like insurance holds the power to determine my sons life. They say yes or no as to if my child receives the education he requires and as of now, they are saying NO! It's to… read more

We live in the Sacramento area of California ..My daughter and her husband have 3 kids their son is 6 years old this month and he was diagnosed with Autism right before he turned 3 and they also have twin girls that are 29 months old and 1 of the girls just got diagnosed with Autism at 24 months. They have Kaiser ins. and Kaiser has been remarkable! My grandson has had 40 hours of Aba and 1hour of Speech and 1 hour of Ot per week..When he started main stream preschool Kasier paid for his tudor to go with him and in the afternoon he had aba at home ..he did that for 2.5 years and now he is in main stream Kindergarten and the we're working with the school on him having an aid through the school system(Pray for us) and in the afternoon he has Aba and l hour a week Speech...Kasier would still pay for a tudor to go to school with him but he would have to stay at a private shool because California school system does not allow outside tudors..
My granddaughter now gets 20 Aba ,1 hour speech and 1hour Ot a week..Kaiser granted more hours a week Aba but she is so young ,we're seeing how well she does with this amount..It's only been a few weeks and she is saying about 2 to 3 new words a week ..we just wish her brother would of had a earlier start..
As I write this I can hear alot of parents saying this is way to much for these babies..but first you need to know we don't just hand our babies over to these people ..my daughter and I both quit our jobs to be beside the teachers every minute and we all live this 24/7.
Personally I don't know how she and her husband do it! I go home at night to my quiet home with my husband.. also we both live on a very limited income..but our babies come first..
My heart goes out to all the parents that have to relocate to get their child the help they need...God bless you

Here in ohio its really great. We live here close to cleveland and when I worked at the clinic the school was 80,000 a year then, im sure its more now. Anyhow, I was able to send our son to the learner school for autism for two years free because i was an employee that school was so great for our son, but once I stopped working there we could no longer send him. In lorain our home town we placed him at spectrum consulting when i stopped working which takes the ohio scholarship so that too would be free. Now, we have him at the silver lining group which is an amazing place that does ABA and that too takes the scholarship.

The top states would be the following based on what I read from the links I provided. Indiana looks pretty good to only because I plan to buy insurance. Some states like Indiana (same for Alaska or Wisconsin)didn't go for the Medicaid expansion so take that into account.

Massachusetts
Oregon
Indiana
California
New York
Wisconsin
Nevada
Vermont
Alaska
Illinois
New Jersey
Delaware
Ohio

Best two are MA and NJ but the cost of living is a factor to consider. You need to look to more rural areas where the cost is lower but the services would be the same because the rules are the same no matter where in the state you are. In MA look up New England Center for Children they are one of the nations best, that is why we moved here, along with the state services. In NJ Eden is a good school as well.
