We have had a android tablet die very quickly with a small crack. However our ipads seem to last and work even if cracked. We are smarter about the cases now, so not all of the ipads are broken

Mine also throws hers a LOT on hardwood floors. It hasn't died yet. She has busted a few android tablets. They tend to only last a few weeks :(

With that being said, stick to a reliable brand tablet with a great cover. I believe Amazon is currently selling a Kindle tablet specific to kids and it has a great warranty.

I have an ipad mini wifi. I paid $199 a few months ago during a sale and I purchased the griffin case, approximately $40. After a lot of research, I recommend that one because it is difficult to remove, and comes highly recommended as similar in protection to the otterbox without the price tag.
