I was wondering if I should see a psychiatrist to prescribe my son medication...or do I see another doctor. His stimming has dramatically increased. I feel it causes the issues we are having with him.
I would definitely start with a doctor who treats autism from a biomedical perspective (many, but not all, are affiliated with Defeat Autism Now) before resorting to a psychiatrist and pharmaceuticals. You may still wind up needing to use medication, but it should be a last resort after diet and natural treatments have been tried without fully resolving the symptoms.
Thank you for all the advice.
I think to his pediatrician
Either a neurologist or a psychiatrist will work for the meds, although sometimes the Neuro will defer to the psychiatrist if things are really bad or complex. Most PCP's are not equipped to fully deal with meds and ASD children they just don't have the experience. If you have ruled out allergies and lack of nutrients by testing meds and therapy at the same time is agood option.
Is he showing any signs of systemic yeast overgrowth? http://www.tacanow.org/family-resources/what-is...
