My son is constantly picking at old scars, bumps, pimples, etc, and just will not let up. He's got eczema, but we constantly keep his skin medicated, and we use a lot of lotions and it has gone down a lot. Now his new thing is scratching his scalp. He won't stop, and he's starting to get some bald spots. I know why he does it. He does it because he sees scalp particles fall down, which fascinates him. As JillV suggested, you should talked to his pediatrician about getting him tested for candida yeast. You can also check out this website, www.gentlenaturals.com. They have products which help with eczema and scalp stuff. Yes, the stuff is for babies but it might help. Plus they have a gentle scalp massage brush which might refocus your son from scratching his scalp.

My daughter not yet diagnosed with autism but constantly picks her scalp or anything and sticks it straight in her mouth. I believe it is OCD N HABIT/stress. My recommendation try not to call it out. Makes it worse. I am scheduling an appointment with psychiatrist. Good luck!

its all anxiety, or a stim...my 3 all have done things like that and the older ones say they cant stop. I am going to retry meds soon...2 out of my 3 have eczema and they scratch till they bleed, now my 6 year old picks at her lips till they bleed...i think its ocd and anxiety.

You're welcome. Good luck! P.S. in the meantime, maybe refocus him to brush his hair with a hairbrush or comb (if you haven't already). Good luck!! Hugs, Raeann
