we are set up pretty daily in a basic routine but I am sooo bored.
I used to get terrible bored...was very isolated no friends anymore and felt 'trapped' in the house with my son. Found out he loved to walk, so started taking walks around the neighborhood everyday during times of the day when other adults were outside...met many neighbors I had never spoken to before and most of them were very interested to learn abuot my son and sutism. It gave me a chance to interact with people outside of the usual therapists/doctors/clinicians. Over time develped a routine doing that, where he was stimulated and enjoyed the physical and social interation and well as I did. Also joining the YMCA...they have financial aide programs so you can pretty much afford it no matter your circumstances...again it was something to do that wasnt all about autism, that gave me a chance to interact with other adults, while my son was getting an opportunity to explore a new environment that was safe and structured. They even have a day care to allow you a little time to yourself to excercise, swim, or just relax for an hour. I found that though routines and structure are important for our kids, adding a little variety is also a good thing for them....and having YOUR sanity will make you a better Mom and make those 'boring routines' at home a little less monotonous.
