ASD Child Talking About Decreased Love Ones
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Has anyone's child ever talked about someone that has died. My son talked about his sister that has been passed for 9 or 10 years now avg he is 3. She was a stillborn. Which makes it even more creepy. Beside that he told me he killed a coward... Someone help

My son talks about his Grandpa, whom died 10 years before his birth. I think they do not understand death the way we do, their still innocent, so I would go with it and talk to a Dr just to be sure

My wife passed away away 2 years ago in October my son over heard a conversation behind closed doors in my room that night. I did not wish to share the details of her death so to protect him i told him the opposite of the fact, but i found out 2 months ago he knew the truth to his mothers death, so..... i sat him down and i explained to him without going to deep the reasoning to her death vs, the way she passed away. I felt after him knowing this it was time to open the door then shut it back. I have twins one of which i said for 3 years that he had autism, the DR's said adhd, 2 months ago he wa diagnosed with high functioning autism, his brother is moderate to severe. The reason im sharing this is those of us who raise autistic children our world is autism so we always find a way to make imossible things to happen. I would explain maybe using dinosaurs as an example to the life and death, showing them how flowers bloom and die. I did this and it made it easier for him to relate to his questions. I am jut giving what works for me and every parent i am sure will do what they feel is best for the child they love so dearly, hope this helped just a little and i thank you.

my son is 28, is HFA, he has been obsessed with death, dying... since forever. Even when someone he doesn't know he will say 'that is so sad, isn't it, mom?'. or if and elderly person (like 100 yrs old) dies , he says the same thing and i say 'no they lived a good life, son.'
when he was 4 or so and any family members traveled, he would always make them take one of his stuffed animals with them, because he believed that would help them be safe. we always had to talk about what was the worst that could happen- child psychologist had suggested this, but he was @ 5.
hope this helps.
God Bless You!
