Sleeping In His Own Bed
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

How do we get my son to sleep in his own bed all night. It's been 5 years and we still lay with him every night till he falls asleep. Only way he will take ANY kind of melatonin or ANYTHING is by crushing it. Will not take any pills so that's out.

It couldn't hurt? Every night a little different. She sometimes falls asleep during her show or half way through the 2nd.. Sometimes we throw on a full house episode .. Seriously she sleeps through that!

We let her watch her favorite show in bed for 30minutes then a not so fav show for 30 minutes.. It helps us sooo much!

My husband still sleeps next to our 5 year old more often than not. He's gotten a lot better at falling asleep alone since giving him the option to "play" with a light up toy if he lays down by himself. Things like the Cloud B Tranquil Turtle that project waves on the ceiling.

Does he like a certain animal or blanket? It took a couple weeks and we still have random days but... we told my son his blankie can only sleep on his bed and he needs to stay with his blankie. They can come out after he gets sleepy all night. My son refuses to take any meds. W lay with him in the living room til he falls asleep and then bring him to his room. My pediatrician told me not to lay in his bed, because when he wakes up in the middle of the night he expects you to still be there. That is why he would get out of bed. Ever since we quit laying in his bed to get him to sleep and gave him his sleepy blanket he has been way better.
