Gaps Diet And Supplements
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I need to start GAPS diet but while reading how to do it, it sounds like I need to stop his supplements and probiotics for a while ? Can anyone tell me what stage I should reintroduce those? Or should I keep him on them? We are taking a multi vitamin, digestive enzyme, probiotics, and speak( omega 3) oh! And we are starting mb12 shots soon!!! In what order should we add these all to the stages of a gaps diet?

I would check the supplements and make sure there are no added ingredients that are not allowed on GAPS. I can't say enough good things about GAPS! It is not easy but if you can stick to it it will definitely help. We did it for 6 strict months and at that time my girls were happy, finally sleeping through the night, bowel habits were normal, and they were tollersting fermented dairy (they both had dairy issues from day one). I would have gone the full 18mnths but at the time I had no support from family, not even my hubby was on board with it. I fought it for 6 months but it was straining relationships and I saw the effects on my girls. But we also had no diagnosis of ASD or epilepsy at the time of doing it so family just really didn't understand why we were doing it. Make sure everyone is on board with you!

Ok I was thinking that thanks for the reply! I will def look into the L glutamine you mentioned. I totally agree about the book relating to my son too. I was so relieved to find a diet that I feel would specifically suit my son and his issues we've been having for quite some time. I only wish I knew sooner and I hope in the future doctors will come to recommend this or at least suggest it to other parents.

I plan to do every phase by the book to her optimal results. My son has no digestion what so ever. You can see all the food in his bowel movements within a couple hours of eating. I believe it said phase 2 you can start supplements. But I wasn't sure if by giving digestive enzymes his gut will rely on those rather than his body beginning to produce his own healthy digestive bacterias etc.
