A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Is anyone getting services from birth to 3 ( early intervention)in ct? My son (21 months old)is getting service from southbay agency but I am not satisfied as all of them are inexperienced fresh graduates. I do have an option to switch to another agency called creative interventions but not sure if I will get any quality serivices there or not. Moreover, I wanted to have max hours for my son and with great difficulty they agreed to give him 16 hours of services including ot, Speech and Aba. I am… read more

My son is getting services through birth to three in CT as well. I have been fighting for more hours without a lot of luck. He gets 6 hours a month with a speech person, 6 hours a week with a therapist and 3 hours a month with a BCBA. I wasn’t sure if that was a lot or not, but all the studies show effectiveness with 20 hours a week. Anyone have any advice or input? I’m not sure what to make of his situation. Is it better to go to an independent provider?

Afternoon, evening and weekends are popular for therapy. They usually have waiting lists for those times because the school age kids are home. I would ask how many BCBA hours you will get. The BCBA at least completed their education and had to put in hours for experience. They are required to pass an extensive exam. Some companies use a Behavior Analysis that is finished with course work and did not yet take the exam and become a BCBA. They still might have some experience. The BCBA trains and supervises the line therapists. (the people that work with the child directly) although BCBA should also be hands on) Find out how closely the new people or line therapists (companies use different titles) will be supervised. Some companies might provide 2 BCBA hours for every 10 hours of therapy(example)Some of that should be used to meet with or train you. I agree that they should be helping you vs you training them. I have been there.

Thank youbeastybaconbits for the advice,.. I definitely want quality over qty.. I am so drained after the sessions so I am working with the teachers and pointing them things that they miss or not doing the way as written in the program..( in a very polite and nice way) but they should be the one correcting me and guiding me not the way around..
