I've had plenty of complaints from teachers about my son's behavior! He is not aggressive and doesn't really have meltdowns; he is more sensory seeking and non-compliant. However, any behavioral problem that is related to his disability MUST be addressed in his IEP, and he cannot be disciplined for it.. ie, missed recess, expulsion, etc, without a specific disciplinary procedure, according to the IDEA Act. Request a Functional Behavioral Assessment to address these behaviors in your child.. By law, a school district cannot refuse. Also, check out wrightslaw.org if you haven't already.
Look into an autism service dog. I think it will help.
I agree. Ask for a Functional Behavior analysis and a team meeting. Present it as way to brainstorm and find solutions to help him be more successful. Does he need more support?
My daughter has behavior issues as well, but when we get complaints from school, we work it out together and try different things with her until we can find a solution. Social stories have worked great for her trouble areas.
We moved to an autism school and now it doesn't come up. I know what you mean though - I used to dread school pick up and IEP meetings!
