With summer right around the corner we are trying to figure out what we can and should do with/for Evelyn. We've talked about a daycare bUT that won't be anything like her pre k class and I am thinking about the mendabialty proms or maybe brain balance (not sure if they would take Evelyn on. Had any one done either of these or have any other recommendations that may have worked for you?
Victory Junction in Randleman, NC is a camp started by Nascar driver Adam Petty. Adam was killed in a wreck and his family including all time legend Richard Petty brought Adam's dream into reality. VJ is a place where special needs children can go and forget about their daily challenges. My daughter Heather went last year and will be returning this year. Each week has a different theme and is for different diagnosis. There is no cost to attend the week. Also, VJ has family weekends where the family can come in the fall or spring for a break from daily living. There is also a quarterly parent support group. The next meeting is Feb. 20th and will coincide with VJ recruitment for new children/parents. The camp is in a rural location is very safe. It's entrances are gated.
I would steer clear of daycare. We tried Heather in a camp for regular kids and she couldn't handle it. Look for camps/activities that deal with special needs children.
When Anniah was first diagnosed, she was in a Christian daycare that doubled as a pre-k type daycare. Her teachers and the director( owner) are the ones who mentioned autism. But they did an awesome summer program too. You might want to look into something like that. Usually, in my experience anyway, that the religious based daycares are best
I had a bad experience with daycare. Only one teacher understood my Will. Granted he wasn't diagnosed, yet. But he clicks with so few people and only truly clicked with one lady and they yanked her to the infant room. I just don't like it. That whole experience makes me want a service dog for him to have in kindergarten.
