Neurologist vs Neuropsychologist. We have a neurologist and i dont see the point she just sat there and read me off the IEP (that we just came from that meeting hrs before) and stated every thing we already know and just handed me more of those Q&A things to fill out before her next apt in 6 months. So has any one had a neurologist and went to a neuropsychologist? and do they do any thing different? And Are they helpful.
Perhaps you should seek out another doctor, period, if you feel she's just parroting the school's work.
But, I wouldn't disregard all neurologists. The one my son sees is wonderful. She's insightful and listens and has made some amazing suggestions and tries to find us ways to help him outside of her care. She really seems to care about my child and we all know how important that is!
In fact, she reads what the school says, but she won't talk about it unless she has concerns with it. She advocated for me when the school was telling me I needed to find ways to help him with certain areas (Aka: She said that was the school's duty and requested they assisted in getting him into activities that would strengthen his bonds with his peers)
She also got us a prescription to HORSES!!! Yes, horses. There is a local woman who uses horses as therapy for people with neurological disorders, and managed to get my insurance to pay for it!
What is it exactly you're looking for? Once you know what kind of help you're looking for, then you can do some research into find the right doctor/type of doctor for your baby. When you go to your first appointment don't be afraid to tell them exactly what you want. You know your child better than any doctor ever will. =)
