I called my accountant. She said Special need credit is what your state determine a special needs for a person. For the state Arkansas its a $500 tax break

Ok so I don't know how it is in your state but here in Michigan every assistance program go by the household/parents income, so my husband works and I don't but he makes to much as far as they are concern lol, but our son didn't qualify for medicaid until we applied for SSI which is supplemental security Income/ SSD which is Social Security Disability they used my husband income for our son, so our son did qualify for SSI but not SSD and because he qualified for SSI that made him automatically qualify for Medicaid by Law, and you can go online or to your Social Security office to apply for SSI/SSD for your child its a lot of paper work so don't get discouraged also if they contact you for more info you have to get school records, doctors reports/medical records and they will also send your child to the governments own choice of doctors i.e Psychiatrist, speech therapist or something to get their opinion on whether or not your child is expected to be disabled for a long time or not. Then they will make their decision, know that if you get approved and you should, that the more money you make the less money you get so we only get like 20 something dollars a month but i just really want the medicaid so the money don't really matter at this point Hope this helps. Be Blessed

I agree with the above and they do consider income so you have to provide check stubs to prove it. They also do this every few months after you have it. The amount of money fluctuates from month to month but it is usually in the same range. I have SSI for both children and Medicaid as well.

They are going to want medical and financial documentation. They didn't have us go to see a doctor they chose because we had written statements from our PCP, neurologist, and psychiatrist. When we met with them in person we told them what our hardships were and that helped.

Pennsylvania has a Bureau of Autism Services. They have a website with their mission, objectives, and contact numbers. Does your state have anything similar? We have also gotten good info from the local Social Security Administration office. I hope this helps. My son is now 41 and has come such a long way! The place that was most helpful when he was very young (2 1/2 y.o.) was our County Intermediate Unit.

Call your local Social security office to apply for SSI.
