I want some parents opinions! Deric is going in to 4th grade and is still at a kindergarten/1st grade level in reading and 2nd grade level in math! He is already in ese self contained classes and not making any growth. I am thinking of putting him in private school to get the one on one but if he doesn't mesh well with them and I try to take him back he loses that spot in the program he is in. So I am not sure if I should risk the private school or if I stay with public and put him in tutoring… read more
I would recommed doing research on the Private school, because he might need services that they don't provided.
My daughter was in a privated school and she had smaller classrooms , the teacher accommodated her more but I had to switcher to the public school and it has been a nightmare. big classroom kids bully her and the list goes on. I would recommend the asking the Private school what resources they have for kids with special needs.
The public school system here in Queens,NY..did not have a place for him..Board of Ed has listing of special ed schools..I fought to get him there..but was worth it..
I always say use caution if you are going to switch to a private school because they are not held to the same standards. Now if the private school is an autism school you should be ok. My son is in public but my daughter is in a private autism school , but it is really expensive so we had to get the state to pay for it. I will tell you it was well worth the year and a half wait because of how good they are.
