I need help. My son is 18 months old. He just got over having E. coli.
He has been putting his hands in his dirty diapers then mouthing his hands. I figured if I put pants in over his onesie then he couldn't do it. Boy was I wrong. He still figured out how to get to his diaper
I have tried sleepers and he still figures out how to get his hands in his diaper
Curious, are there children diagnosed as level 2/3 that are able to ever communicate verbally successfully? Our son is 2 1/2 and non verbal currently. Hes in speech therapy 4xwk and im wondering if verbal communication could be a possibility down the line? As long as hes able to communicate with us in some fashion i guess thats all that matters but how wonderful would it be to hear him talk.
My son is 3 1/2 and after almost a year of therapy he is finally saying 1 or 2 word phrases. Like someone else said he is not conversational but that is ok. I been told me teaching him sign language… read more
So, I saw this add for a program for our kids that claims 100% positive results. Apparently, it is tailored to each individual child to take specific steps to improve their behavior, diets, social skills, etc. without the use of ABA. I had a one on one call with the founder last week and she claims to have a daughter on the spectrum that has learned to thrive through her program and her website touts other testimonials of people who have seen social, emotional, and verbal improvements in their… read more
I'm coming back to this after having seen the positive reviews left by certain users, and also the comments from someone claiming to be Cindy. As an autist myself, I have questions:

If it was definitely genetic they would have revealed it by now as they are always saying they “don’t know” the cause. I find that hard to believe. Also, if was something genetic or a DNA abnormality… read more
I am presently doing my course in Early Childhood Development and Family Studies. In doing a research on different behavioural problems teachers at an Early Childhood Educational Institution may encounter. One of the problems that a teacher spoke of was to convince the mother with a son who has Autism that he is cable of doing so much if he was given the encouragement. Her heart sank as she spoke of how difficult it is to get this intelligent child to do simple class tasks, which he has shown at… read more
Do you mean the parent has an autistic child and does not know it? Or do you mean they will not accept it?
I'm an nanny to an amazing little girl who was just diagnosed with autism today. I have been with her for 6 months, and in that time I have done nothing but research and absorb information. I've been delving into the world of autism for some time now, but for Lillys parent, this is all very new. Are there any good books that would help them with this process? What was it like for you as a parent? What helped? I can only imagine what they are feeling.
....and it has been very enlightening to read a story about someone that has learned to live successful with ASD.
Are people more knowledgeable about autism or special needs or disabled nowadays- near you?
They have services for people here in OKLA., but do they really know much?
Hi everyone! Looking for some opinions and advice.
My 5 year old has recently been diagnosed with autism. I'm a sensitive person so this journey has been hard and heartbreaking at times. I love my baby so much and my heart wants another child but the fear of having another child with autism scares me so much. its Not the actual diagnosis that scares me because my boys best attributes (honesty, caring, humour, infectious personality) are all apart of his autism it's more that I am scared of… read more
Our daughter was born in 2010 and was diagnosed with ASD/ADHD in 2015. Our son was born in 2011 so we didn't know autism was an issue at the time. He has no signs of ASD. Another factor is age of… read more
My son just turned 4 today and is a only child. I'm 44 my wife is 46. She is thinking of doing ivf or possibly adopting so my son has someone to care for him in the future? I feel he may be on the high end of the spectrum? How do adults do in life with autism? I know this is a difficult question to ask since the spectrum varies so widely. With autism growing so much I hope there are measures in place so they are not discriminated against when they are older. Thank you all in advance for… read more

Isn't sensory processing disorder..auditory processing...autism..on the spectrum..aren't these really all the same things intertwined?..my daughter isn't just one thing so I say she is on the spectrum?? Is that right?? I never know how to describe her..she is Madison but I do like to inform some people...what should I say? She has no medical label yet...
A child can have one and not the other. Sensory Processing Disorder is it's own diagnosis, and while many ppeople with autism have SPD, not all do. And not all people with SPD have autism.
However… read more
