I was told by an occupational therapist that the mouth/jaw has the largest number of receptors in the body. She recommended the chew toys and things just like you've been doing. A preschool teacher we know recommended chewing gum for one of the kiddos in my sons class. Maybe sugar free if you are ok with him chewing gum?!?
would he wear a bracelet or a sweat band on his wrist? They sell specific chewy, fabric, bracelets on amazon. My kid does this too. the toe and fingernail thing is just the worse because he chews them until they bleed. our therapist just says to block it and hand him an acceptable item to chew. It's really hard though since he just lays it aside and I have to find a new one. sorry, not much help.
My six year old does this as well. He mainly does it when anxious now though. He used to chew on toys and tried chewing on power chords. Now it's only his shirt and sometimes his lip. I just buy dollar t-shirts he can wear and tear up if it seems like it's going to be a bad day. His doctor says it's fine and just a stress mechanism.
My 8 year old eats the top of his shirt and gets so embarrassed over it.
Yes my son recently is always chewing on his tshirt thanks for the good answer Im definitely doing my research
