I had problems because my son Has an immune deficiency. He can't fight off germs. I had homebound services due to his education planning. His teachers would assign his work, and a teacher came three times a week to work with him. Sometimes he still felt so sick that he couldn't do his work. My son was reading and retaining on a 12th grade level in second grade, but couldn't pick what he wanted to drink for dinner I came to terms that he would never be able to graduate high school due to concentration problems. His doctor wrote an in-depth letter, and they never hassled us again about attendance. He got a certificate of achievement instead of a diploma, and I'm fine with that. They included him in the graduation ceremony, but he was so excited, he stayed up all night the night before, and konked out asleep in his cap and gown at the school, so he got his picture made in his cap and gown, with his certificate, and went home and slept the rest of the day.Lol.

I'm going through something similar with my daughter. Like the other parents have said be sure to get doctor's notes and keep written records of everything. I even document phone conversations. Have his IEP/504 ammended to included excessive absences if possible. Best of luck to you.

Thank you very much. Going tomorrow to get dr note and taking all his neuropsychologist diagnosis and treatment with me to the meeting fri. He won't be punished or he will be homeschooled.

My son misses school frequently for all kind of issues like sleep, anxiety, allergies and emotional issues. What we did was we asked his doctors to write letters for us that stated that he was going to miss time throuout the year and his diagnosis for all those conditions would be the cause of that.

Writing a note for every single time was becoming a problem, and the school saw how he acted when he had any of those issues and it was a problem, so they knew that he might as well have stayed home because nothing was going to get accomplished. They took the letters and have not given us an issue with them so that did the trick.
